Alive India turns 16: Supratiek Ghosh builds artist-led ecosystem connecting music, media and creators

New Delhi [India], August 12: When musician and entrepreneur Supratiek Shyamal Ghosh founded Alive India on August 1, 2010, India’s creative industries were largely fragmented, with artists, brands, media, institutions and production professionals often operating independently.

Sixteen years later, Alive India has evolved into an artist-led music, media and cultural ecosystem connecting creators, brands, educational institutions, corporates and audiences across 26 Indian states.

At the heart of this journey is Ghosh, a singer, songwriter, composer, music producer, performer and cultural entrepreneur who believes India never lacked creative talent but needed stronger infrastructure to connect talent with opportunity.

His understanding of the industry came from experience. Through his band Aurko – The Rising Sun, which enters its 26th year in 2026, Ghosh has performed in more than 2,700 concerts across over 70 cities in India and internationally.

The journey exposed him not only to the spotlight but also to the less visible realities of the music business — rehearsals, production, artist coordination, technical challenges, brand expectations, media relations and the financial uncertainties faced by performers.

The result was Alive India, conceived as a bridge between music, media, creators, brands and communities.

What began in Bengaluru as a modest initiative has developed into an ecosystem encompassing Alive India Studio, Alive India In Concert, Alive India Rockstars, Alive India Music Foundation, Alive Emerge – Learn to Earn, Gift A Music and Bhalobashi Bangla.

Its Bengaluru-based Music, Media and Creator Campus enables musicians and creators to record, rehearse, film, collaborate and develop content under one roof.

The organisation has also placed considerable emphasis on young talent. Through industry immersion, internships, workshops, residencies and live opportunities, emerging creators are exposed to the practical realities of the creative economy.

Ghosh’s philosophy is summed up in four words — “Passion. Purpose. Profit. Repeat.” He believes creativity needs passion and purpose, but must also generate sustainable income if artists are to build long-term careers.

Another principle running through his work is “I to Us. Me to We” — a belief that individual artistic success can become an opportunity for an entire creative community.

His own musical career continues to develop alongside his entrepreneurial work. Aurko’s philosophy, “Band Equals Bandhan,” reflects the importance Ghosh places on relationships, collaboration and continuity.

His contribution to music is also receiving international recognition. Ghosh has been nominated for the International Mother Teresa Award for Singer and Music Excellence, scheduled to be presented in Singapore on August 26, alongside personalities including Poonam Dhillon, Padmini Kolhapure and Rituparna Sengupta, among others.

The recognition comes at a time when India’s creator economy is undergoing rapid transformation, with digital platforms, regional content, artificial intelligence and experiential marketing reshaping how creative work is produced, consumed and monetised.

Ghosh believes the future lies in convergence rather than isolated transactions — where a performance can become content, content can create community, and community can generate sustainable commercial opportunities for creators.

As Alive India enters its 17th year, its journey represents an unusual transition — from an artist seeking opportunities to an artist building opportunities for others.

Alive India was never created to own the spotlight, Ghosh says. It was created to help more people find theirs.
